the practice of reducing a building’s effects on the environment
through more effective design, construction, and use of the building.
Architect's
Responsibilities -
create designs that reduce the use of energy, water, non-renewable
materials, and eliminate chemicals harmful to the environment,
etc.
Contractor’s Responsibilities - build
using methods that reduce erosion, reduce energy use, reduce
water use, and recycle waste, etc.
Owner’s Responsibilities -
build only what you need not what you want, reduce
the use of energy and water, open windows to eliminate indoor
air pollution, and eliminate watering landscaping through
the use of xeriscape plants, etc.
